Every superfan knows that May is officially Star Wars Month. The annual ‘May the 4th’ celebration is followed by “Episode IV – A New Hope” anniversary on May 25th. This year, the first movie from the original franchise marks its 47th anniversary, summoning the fandom yet again. We found three iconic hairstyles from the epic fantasy movie every fan absolutely needs to recreate this month.
The Star Wars universe is known not only for its epic lightsaber duels but also incredible futuristic looks and hairstyles. From Princess Leia’s iconic buns to Queen Padmé’s elaborate braided styles, the Star Wars saga is the ultimate source of hair-spiration. Pick your fav hair glam and join the global fan craze!
Leia Organa, played by talented Carrie Fisher, is a true fashion icon whose dresses and hairdos left the whole Star Wars fandom in awe in the late 1970s. Her twin buns in “A New Hope” became the epitome of resistance and courage, inspiring many girls to wear the same hairstyle. To recreate those iconic cinnamon roll-shaped buns, start out with a middle part and make sure it’s straight and defined.
Throw your hair into two mid-height ponytails – those will be the base of your buns. Take each pony and twist it in towards your face and then wrap the strand up and around in the same direction. The trick is to pin the strand as you go by pinning the edge of the strand and hooking it out and then back in. Don’t forget to fluff your buns for more texture and volume – the bigger the buns, the better. When your buns are big enough to cover your ears, the hairstyle is ready!
Natalie Portman’s Padmé Amidala is a queen of long locks and show-stopping hairstyles that look truly regal. One of the character’s most memorable hair moments is her handmaiden disguise on Tatooine, featuring a dramatic half updo with multiple wrapped braids. The first step to master this ‘do is to create a half up ponytail and make four braids out of it.
Add two more face-framing braids for your two-strand braided headband. Keep adding mini braids at the back of your head, but this time, you need to create a loop out of one braid for more texture. Once done, create a sort of seashell bun out of your braided pony. Voila! Enjoy the prettiest hairstyle in the galaxy!
If you think that all the cool hairdos end with the original Star Wars franchise, we can assure you that new movies have their own space glam squad. And Rey (Daisy Ridley) from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is an undeniable leader of those fashionistas. Her triple bun hairstyle is the ultimate Jedi look that is both neat and sassy. Want to look the same? Start off by leaving out two face-framing pieces of your hair.
Part back the top section and throw it into a ponytail. Instead of pulling all of your hair through the elastic, leave a couple of inches to create a nice little loop. Then, take a small section of hair hanging right below it and wrap it around the elastic to achieve a nice and clean look. Repeat the process two more times along the mohawk section. With this hairstyle, you’ll definitely be in the spotlight!
May the Force (and gorgeous locks) be with you, our dearest readers!
