In this video, influencer Milabu is testing some of the viral hair hacks that you can recreate at home. Keep reading to find out which of them work and which are a waste of time.
The idea of this trick is to make your ponytail more lifted and fuller. To achieve this, Milabu makes two ponytails on top of each other. She secures the top half of her hair using an elastic band and then she splits the bottom section into two and brings it around the first ponytail.
Frankly speaking, this trick doesn’t do much, apart from a pronounced gap in the middle of the ponytail. Our verdict is: this trick is useless.
Creating two separate ponytails on top of each other might help to make a more voluminous and lifted ponytail. However, you should rather pull the bottom part through the top, like in this video:
Also, backcombing the base of your ponytail using some styling powder will add heaps of volume to your hairstyle. While this technique might not be healthy for day-to-day use, it will make miracles for a special night out.
Last but not least, thin elastic bands don’t give much hold, and your ponytail ends up looking limp. Use some strong and sturdy ones to keep your hair in place.
In the next tutorial, the influencer shows how to create a low bun using two hair bands. She makes a half-bun and puts an elastic on top of it, then slides it down and tucks the hair inside, securing it with another band on top.
We think it’s a great idea if you want to make a bun but have no bobby pins on hand. It’s especially useful as a quick fix for those who must wear their hair up for work like air hostesses, police workers, or nurses.
If you love the idea of a slightly different, twisted bun, you might want to try the same hack using a couple of small claw clips instead of the second band.
We certainly rate this hack as useful.
This is probably our favorite hair hack of all shown in this video. Simple yet practical, it only requires a few easy steps. Make a high ponytail, then divide it into two sections, twist each of them, and wrap them around the base creating the shape of the bun.
It’s unbelievable how a few easy steps can turn your mum bun into a sassy updo. We love it! Unnecessary to mention that we consider this hack extremely useful.
Besides, if for any reason you don’t have any bobby pins to secure the ends, you can try tucking them under the hair band. Also, you can use another hair band and place it on top of the bun, just like in the previous low bun tutorial.
In this tutorial, Milabu is trying to recreate the famous Chris Appleton’s TikTok hack of making a lifted high ponytail. She puts a clear elastic band about an inch above the base of her ponytail and then secures it down to create an anchor that will hold the ponytail.
This method is surely making the hairstyle more secure, but we are not convinced whether it is very effective in terms of the lift. If you want to make the perkiest ponytail ever, here’s what you need to do. Take a smaller circle section in the middle of your head and make a ponytail exactly where you want it to sit. Then just bring the rest of the hair up and make another ponytail around the small inner one. This will help to eliminate any sagginess and keep your pony bouncy and cheerful.
The verdict is: somewhat useful.
Perfectly simple, the point of this hack is that you put all your hair up in a ponytail and curl the ponytail instead of your whole head. You will be surprised how much quicker it is.
While we undoubtedly find this trick useful, here are a couple of things to consider.
First, this method won’t work for short hair, your locks must be at least about armpit length. Second, although it’s great as a quick and easy way to curl your hair, it won’t give you as perfect and polished results as the classic way.
Here’s our conclusion on all the hacks seen in this video.
The useful hacks are:
The number one useful hack is the twisted top knot bun – it’s ultimately easy to create, and it honestly brings your high bun game to a new level. We also found the lazy hair curling technique fairly useful, as well as the low textured bun.
These hacks are useless:
As much as we wanted to like the double ponytail hack, in this particular case it wasn’t the best approach. However, you can still make a double ponytail work (see our suggestions above). Also, the high ponytail hack wasn’t very convincing, although it might be worth giving it a try.
