Texture and color take the lead this fall.
Early sunsets, hot drinks warming cold hands, soft knits clutched close to the chest – fall means comfort. The hair trends of fall 2025 reflect the year’s rhythm with rich textures, warm autumnal palettes, and even parting shifts and accessory updates. Here’s what experts see trending in the upcoming season.
Natural texture leads again, but with more intention than laissez-faire. As Kira Byrd, the founder and strategist at Curl Centric, notes, “In the fall of 2025, textured style will still be the trend as natural curls and waves will take over more.” Increasingly, individuals are confidently choosing their natural texture, opting for low-effort, high-style looks like structured curls, effortless waves, and full-bodied updos. These make excellent hairstyles that hold up to weather and layered collars.

Protective looks keep their foothold. Byrd is direct: “Braids, twists, and knots are also in demand since, besides protecting the hair, they give a sense of elevated elegance.” It’s a win-win: minimal upkeep, maximum hair health, and the flexibility to switch up your style whenever inspiration strikes.

The bob remains a reliable staple. Nikki Cestaro, author of SuperHairo and owner of Karma Beauty Studio Inc. in Merrick, NY, sees no slowdown: “The bob is going nowhere. The classic cut is still popular, but all different variations of lengths and textures.” This season’s menu ranges from neck-skimming crops with airy, shattered ends to shoulder-grazing single-length cuts that read crisp with a trench or blazer.

It feels like a small change but has a tangible payoff. Cestaro notes, “What I do notice is that most styles are side parted, which, as a GenXer from the 90’s, I am thrilled to see. A middle part is not the most flattering shape for all; it accentuates sharpness in facial features.” A gentle shift in the part can create volume where you want it and control it where you don’t.

Fringe hasn’t left; it’s simply changing shape. “Short, pixie-like, full fringe, bouncy… something on the forehead is definitely going to be the big request,” Cestaro observes. “Longer versions like curtain bangs, or swept layers that fall to the cheekbone are still on the horizon, but a bit passé for this upcoming season.”

Barrettes and retro combs are sliding back in – sleek metals, tortoiseshells, and pearly clips that pull one side behind the ear or fasten a half-up. They’re a perfect finishing touch for a knit set or a long coat.

The palette deepens. Byrd sees a definite move to warmth: “In terms of hair colors, this fall of 2025, I see many people choosing to go towards darker and richer colors. Warm, autumnal colors such as dark browns, deep auburns, and caramel highlights are becoming popular as individuals demand warm colors.” Placement stays soft and wearable: “Soft balayage and root melts are popular as well, giving a non-fussy, but beautiful option to create depth and dimension in the hair.”

Cestaro reports a shift in reds: “I am noticing a big surge of mahogany red color tones, to replace the ‘Cowboy Copper’ of yesterday. Brilliant burgundy wine, cherry red, very violet-based reds are where the palette will shift to.”

Browns aim for richness without brass; try a balanced chocolate brown hue – not too dark so it appears black and not too light so it shows golden or brassy tones. Blondes move toward beige, sand, and subtle gold with stronger weaves from the root – clean brightness, less ash, and not overly grown-in.
