Hair rollers are having a major comeback lately. All those beautiful hair roller tutorials promise to give you the perfect ‘90s blowout look. So, you order a set of Velcro rollers, hoping to get a dream hairstyle. But, alas, those cute styling tools suddenly turn into torture devices! Your hair keeps getting all tangled up, the rollers are not rolling, and your dreamy blowout is now a tangled mess.
The hairstylist and hair hack whizz Jeremy Pugh knows the struggle is real. He dishes on his favorite tricks to make the hair styling game easier. The hair community can’t be happier – the secret of perfect hairstyles with rollers is out!
The problem with hair rollers is always in their application. As Jeremy Pugh demonstrates, people often start rolling their locks up at the end of their hair. So, when they try to pull the rollers out, those tucked-in ends prevent the tools from coming off easily (short hair is an exception).
Another mistake is using the rollers on dry hair. Don’t forget your hairspray is your best friend in your hair styling adventures. Sectioning also matters. It’s better to take smaller hair sections to get a good grip and achieve a defined curl.
One useful trick is placing the roller halfway, not at the end of the hair. Just imagine you’re using your curling iron and clamping it in the middle of the strand for a perfect curl. The same goes for the roller. Wrap the lower part of your strand around the roller, leaving some space between the styling tool and the roots.
Then, set it at the base to create a firm grip with the root area and let all the volume magic work. For thick and long-haired girlies, adding some bobby pins might be a good way to secure the rollers. We all know that gravity and hair rollers are not the best combo, right? So, give your curled locks some extra support!
Wrapping your hair around the roller is only half of the work. Unwrapping it, though, is a whole new level. Usually, pulling the hair rollers out causes meltdown more often than putting them in. What Jeremy Pugh suggests is not pulling the rollers out but unwrapping them away from the face. And there you have it – volume and curl at once!
People in the comment section say these hacks are true game-changers. “Where was this video when I was practically in tears trying NOT to rip out my hair after using a Velcro roller in my already damaged hair,” one woman shares. “I just started using the Velcro rollers and needed this information. Thank you,” another user adds.
Mastering hairstyles with self-grip rollers is not as hard as it seems. All you need is confidence and good advice from someone who knows the drill.
