Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! If the summoning rings any bells, you’ll be delighted to learn that Tim Burton’s iconic 1988 movie finally gets its highly-anticipated sequel! Yes, you heard it here, “Beetlejuice 2” is coming to cinemas this September with the original cast and some A-listers on top of it.
As the movie teaser shows, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega will channel a mother-daughter duo, with the Deetz family back to Winter River again. While Lydia Deetz’s offspring doesn’t adopt her parent’s gothic style in clothing and hairstyles, the apple still doesn’t fall far from the tree. Both characters are sporting some old-school hairstyles with bangs lined with ‘80s aesthetics. And we’re here for it!
Remember Winona Ryder’s iconic hairstyle with spiky baby bangs and a tousled, backcombed updo? Well, those are back and better than ever. And with Lydia Deetz’s goth personality in mind, this hairstyle matches her character perfectly. This time, Ryder’s character takes the hair styling game even further and trades her sharp pointy fringe from the first movie for jagged, asymmetrical micro bangs – a nod to the punk and goth subcultures that gained momentum in the 1980s. So, while some die-hard hair fans were sweating on big hair and high ponytails, others rocked the new fashion decade with bangs.
With the recent comeback of ‘80s hairstyles, the revival of the bold and edgy ‘dos doesn’t sound surprising. The nostalgic vibe is all over the web these days, and the filmmakers know exactly how to pull the strings and make us rush to the hair salon, begging for Beetlejuice bangs. And if the hairstyle comes with at least a tiny bit of Winona Ryder’s rizz and sass, we’re so ready for the big chop!
Jenna Ortega’s character, Astrid, represents a younger generation of the Deetz family, but their similarity doesn’t end with their last name. It seems trending bang looks are hereditary and are passed down from one generation to another like an heirloom. At least we thought so when we first saw Jenna Ortega’s wispy bangs that are so Lydia-coded. Just like her mother, Astrid Deetz prefers half updos with soft face-framing tendrils at the front. The hairstyle demonstrates all the delicious layers and creates the ultimate nostalgic flair with a back-in-time vibe.
As you can see, the hair team didn’t change much in Jenna Ortega’s hairstyles – the actress is known for her love of wispy fringe in real life, too. We can only guess how the movie will approach character makeovers. Knowing that stunning Monica Bellucci will also grace us with her presence as Beetlejuice’s wife, the hair and makeup transformations will be huge!
Just like our favorite creepy character rises from the grave to wreak havoc in a small town, “Beetlejuice 2” brings back some of the trendiest hairstyles of the past. Brace yourself for the unforgettable retro journey!
