Whether you are planning a themed party or just love vintage style, Dahlia’s blog is a treasure trove for the retro stuff. An influencer, whose Instagram account is fully dedicated to old Hollywood elegance, shares her style and beauty tips. We picked 4 of our favourite hairstyles which you will enjoy feasting your eyes on.
This elegant 1940s style inspired by the Brazilian singer Carmen Miranda features a classic element of that period’s hairstyles – a front roll. Dahlia shares a detailed step-by-step guide in the description box of her post with a full list of products. Essentially, you need two hairbands, a few grips, a hairspray and ideally, a hair cream, wax or pomade. It’s easier to create the front roll if you curl your hair first, however, it’s doable with straight hair too. If you weave a couple of bobby pins through the roll, keeping them close to the scalp, you will be able to fully hide them.
Try the vintage crown braids with Dahlia. The influencer starts by twisting the front parts to create that distinctive ’40 or ‘50s look. She then makes two ponytails, braids and brings each of them on top of her head. If you want to recreate this hairstyle, use a few bobby pins to pin the braids close to the scalp in multiple places. This will ensure it stays put. The shorter your hair, the higher the ponytails should be to have enough lengths to your braids.
One of the iconic hairstyles from the Notebook, Victory Rolls are actually quite easy to make. First, curl all your hair in the same direction and brush it out. Then section a piece of hair in the front and carefully roll it towards the parting. Pin it into place. Make another roll behind it and one more on the opposite side. Experiment with the number of rolls, their directions and sizes to make your perfect vintage hairstyle. If your hair is on the finer side, backcomb it before rolling to give it some volume. Also, using mousse will make your hair more manageable and easier to style.
In this video, Dahlia reveals her secret to the perfect bumper bangs (spoiler alert!) – it’s padding. Take a medium-sized donut hair padding and cut it through. You will get the most perfect shape of the padding that you need. Separate the fringe area, prep it with some mousse and gently tease it. Then place the padding under that front strand and roll it towards your face. Pin your bumper bangs with a few grips and finish with some strong hold finishing spray.
We hope you enjoyed these amazing tutorials by Dahlia and will try some of her beautiful vintage hairstyles for your next themed party, photoshoot, or incorporate them in your daily life to add a touch of timeless elegance and chic to your hair game!
