The pixie has been through enough reinventions to qualify for its own fashion archive. Now it has flipped its ends, grown a little attitude, and picked up a cool new nickname. Meet and greet the flixie, a short crop with flicked edges that makes the classic pixie considerably more coquettish.

@beautybyria_
The flixie is a flippy take on the pixie. The hair is comparatively short around the sides and back, but the ends get to misbehave. Wispy pieces around the ears, nape, temples, or bangs can kick outward, creating the little flicks that give the cut its name.
Some versions are cropped close around the sides with a longer, piecey top. Others have enough length around the ears and nape for more obvious flips. It has some retro energy, too. The flick recalls short cuts from the 1960s and 1970s, but the uneven lengths and airy texture make the current version line up with today’s zeitgeist.

Why Is the Flixie Trending?
Short hair has been having a rather entertaining moment. The bob became shorter, the bixie blurred the line between bob and pixie, and now the flixie is pushing the pixie toward something even more expressive.
A flixie gives short hair a recognizable shape, but the flipped pieces create room for styling. You can direct the ends outward, sweep the fringe across the forehead, or add texture through the crown. A tiny haircut suddenly has several personalities. It has enough retro DNA to feel familiar and enough messiness to avoid looking like a historical reenactment.

Take a few reference photos to your stylist and point out the areas where you want visible flicks. Your stylist can preserve extra length around the ears, nape, or top if you want more movement.
Slightly wavy to curly hair usually makes the flick easy to create. Curls can produce a more irregular version with plenty of natural texture. Fine hair can benefit from a piecey cut that creates separation between the sections.

For styling, use a small round brush or flat iron to bend the ends outward. A pea-sized amount of styling paste or wax can separate individual pieces. Finish with hairspray if your flicks have a habit of surrendering by lunchtime.
The shorter the cut, the faster its shape can disappear. Plan regular trims if you want the cropped silhouette and flicks to stay defined. Or you can wolf out and go for a shaggier shape, or just keep growing it until it turns into a bixie.
