“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is the upcoming post-apocalyptic action film set in a deserted wasteland. Ruled by ruthless warlords and biker gangs, this world is no place for the weak and fragile. So, when Imperator Furiosa – a rebellious officer – enters the power games, she begins her own Odyssey of fury and vengeance.
Anya-Taylor Joy’s Furiosa is a typical post-apocalyptic hero to be reckoned with. And if you expected to see the actress wearing her swan white locks in this movie, we must disappoint you. The movie star enters her black swan era with not one, but two mind-blowing hair transformations!
In “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Imperator Furiosa is played by talented Charlize Theron. The character is best known for her shaved head, prosthetic arm, and strong personality which makes her a focal point of George Miller’s post-apocalyptic saga. As the new movie trailer shows, we’ll get a glimpse of Furiosa’s past and finally learn how she lost her arm and chopped off her long hair.
We all know that if the hero’s appearance changes throughout the movie, the character development arc will be crazy. Indeed, young Furiosa is sporting long dark brown hair and a messy hairstyle in one of the opening scenes, designating that she’s spent years in the desert, trying to find her way back home. And if Anya-Taylor Joy’s frizzy hair is not enough to transform her into an authentic survivalist and driver, the black engine grease that covers her forehead surely adds to the image.
While hairstyling is not the first thing on the main character’s mind, she still manages to tame her long tresses between fights with bad guys. She brushes her hair back in a simple half updo to keep her front strands out of her face. A desert chic, indeed!
As the movie goes on, Anya-Taylor Joy eventually transforms into Imperator Furiosa we all remember – an unapologetic leader and a fierce warrior. Her buzz cut turns her into Charlize Theron’s lookalike, merging two storylines into one. Welcome to the short hair club!
In her interview with Empire magazine, Joy confesses she also wanted to shave her head, just like Charlize Theron did for “Fury Road.” But the film director talked her out of it and opted for a wig instead. Real cut or not, the new hairstyle fully resembles the rebellious nature of the female lead and proves once more that a good actor can nail any transformation.
What can we say, Anya-Taylor Joy’s not afraid to ruffle some feathers with her dieselpunk style and edgy haircut in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” Can’t wait to see the rest of her looks!
