A messy bun is a go-to hairstyle among hair lovers – it gives you a laid-back look when you’re in a time crunch and don’t feel like spending hours styling your tresses. Beauty blogger and our favorite hair bestie Nichole Ciotti is a guru of trendy hairstyles and handy tricks, who knows how to style her locks to perfection with minimum time and effort. In one of her latest videos, she introduces a step-by-step hair tutorial on a twist-and-tuck messy bun hairstyle that looks both chic and effortless. Discover how to recreate this ‘do and enjoy your style upgrade!
As always, start out by creating a high ponytail – the base of your bun – and secure it with a hair tie. If you want a classy look, opt for a low ponytail instead before proceeding to the next steps.
Then, you need to split your pony into two sections while fanning the hair out over the hair tie. Once you see that your hair covers the hair tie from all sides, place another hair tie over the fanned-out sections, securing them in place. It’s better to use a stretchy one for a stronger hold.
Next, take a small section of hair, twist it a couple of times, and tuck it into the stretchy hair tie. Repeat the process, moving around the bun until all your hair is tucked in nicely. For a more textured look, add some braided strands between the sections.
After you gather your hair in a bun, gently adjust and fluff it to achieve a messy look. You can always play around with the shape until you get the desired result. And the last thing – don’t forget about styling products to make your messy bun last. Tame your flyaways with a sleek stick by gliding it through your hair from the temples to the top of your head. A good hairspray will also provide a much-needed hold and smooth finish.
Give this twist-and-tuck hairstyle a go and enjoy your perfectly imperfect messy bun!
