Styling your curly mane upside down is one of the many ways to get beautifully defined and bouncy ringlets full of volume and texture. Still, even if you’ve done everything right, there’s always a risk of getting the so-called bird’s nest hair – flat hair in the back of your head that won’t get any volume or definition. But hey, we’ve got your back with a handy life hack to keep your natural curls nice and fluffy all around!
Curly-haired beauty and content creator Charlotte Elisabeth is your guide in the world of hair care and styling tips for naturally curly tresses. In her latest Instagram video, the blogger shares her go-to tips on how to get rid of the dreaded hair gap at the nape when styling your curls. Just follow these easy steps and say bye to the bird’s nest hair!
To begin with, brush your wet curls upside down as usual. Use a gentle detangling brush before switching to your styling brush, or you’ll end up with hair knots and frizz. Apply your favorite styling products for curls to nourish, detangle, and moisturize your hair.
When working through the curls with your styling brush, don’t forget to apply some tension and move slowly from the roots to the tips to give your ringlets extra definition.
Turn upright, and you’ll see that the hair stays stuck in the back and doesn’t flip over. If it dries as it is, you’ll get a frizzy mess that looks like a bird’s nest. This is the area you need to focus on while styling to make sure your curls get all the volume. Brush your nape to get rid of flat hair and help it get unstuck from the back of your head.
In this case, you’ll want to make sure that you brush up and away from the scalp instead of just moving directly against the scalp. So, basically, you need to fluff up your back section to give it definition and volume.
Once done with the brushing, turn your hair upside down again and scrunch it with your hands. Don’t brush your curls after that to keep them from falling flat. Diffuse them as usual or let them air dry. That’s it! Your perfect ringlets are ready to steal the show!
Leave the bird’s nest hair in the past with this genius curl styling trick. All you need is a good hair brush and the right styling technique for a fail-proof glam.
